The Democratic Alliance (DA) will lay criminal charges against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu at the Cape Town Central Police Station on Thursday.
This, in the light of statements by KZN Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, that Mchunu is affiliated to persons linked to criminal activities.
Mkhwanazi also indicated that top police officials are involved in criminal activities.
The DA says laying criminal charges against Mchunu forms part of their ongoing efforts to hold those in power accountable and to protect the rule of law.

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has confirmed that security has been tightened at the home of KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissione.
Masemola says Mkhwanazi has been receiving life threats in KZN.
The Provincial Police Commissioner made corruption allegations against senior police officials including Minister Senzo Mchunu. He also said he was prepared to die in the fight against criminals, some of whom he alleged were high-ranking politicians who were part of drug cartels in Gauteng.
“In terms of physical protection, you’d know that, as I said, he’s been getting threats to his life in that province. We’ve beefed up his security. But he won’t be persecuted from my side. Surely, there will be no persecution of any member of South African Police Service. Not only him, but any anyone,” says Masemola.
