The DA will refer the shocking state of the Krakeel Sportsfield to Parliament.
The DA in the Eastern Cape has raised questions over the alleged expenditure of R8 million on a sports field in Krakeel in the Kou-Kamma Municipality.
The party has requested a breakdown of the expenditure from the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie.
In the department’s reply to the DA, it said that it was not aware of any investigations regarding any irregularities with this specific project.
The DA’s constituency leader, Henni Britz, says according to their observations, the work done on the stadium does not add up to the expenditure.
“Answers that I received from the minister was that R8 million was spent on the renovation at this facility. Now, what you see was pre-existing, there was a sports field, a clubhouse and a multi-purpose court. So, renovations alone cost R8 million, according to the minister. I have asked follow-up questions to request details of how the money was spent. If you look around, the question must be asked. Did we receive value for money, for R8 million?” says Britz.
