DA questions timing of Dion George’s resignation

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has questioned the timing of Dion George’s resignation from the party and Parliament. President Cyril Ramaphosa removed George from his cabinet position in November last year following allegations of underperformance. Ramaphosa then appointed DA spokesperson, Willie Aucamp as the new Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment.

In a letter to the party, George claims that he was pushed out of the party and that the DA is captured by the ANC through the actions of its leader, John Steenhuisen.

He accuses the DA leader of abusing the party’s credit card.

However, an internal DA investigation found no evidence that Steenhuisen misappropriated party funds.

George has since laid a complaint with the Public Protector’s office, detailing how Steenhusien abused his position to remove him as a Minister.

George was a member of the DA for 31 years.

He served as a Member of Parliament and was also in charge of the party’s finances.
