DA plans to oppose possible tax increases ahead of Budget Speech

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it would be against any tax increases ahead of Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, delivering his Budget speech on Wednesday.

This, as media reports suggest that Godongwana had raised increased taxes to Cabinet as an option to give government coffers a boost.

Treasury is expected to announce a revenue shortfall.

DA MP Dr Mark Burke, says the party is not in favour of any tax hikes.

“This would include personal income tax, corporate tax and VAT. South Africans already struggling under the cost of living crisis and to further burden our citizens would be completely unacceptable. (As) the DA, we urge the Government of National Unity to come up with growth orientated reforms, infrastructure investment and reducing wasteful expenditure. We should prioritise these, instead of imposing higher taxes,” says Burke.
