DA demands action against principal over alleged corporal punishment

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng is demanding action against the principal of Madisong High School in Hammanskraal, North of Pretoria, for allegedly using corporal punishment on some students.

The party has criticized the Department of Education’s decision to transfer the principal to the district office as punishment, calling it insufficient.

DA’s Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education, Sergio Isa Dos Santos, emphasizes that the alleged unconstitutional act raises concerns about the department’s consistency and fairness in handling such cases.

“We are going to be submitting formal questions to MEC Chiloane in the legislature and will be conducting an oversight visit to the school ourselves. Lawlessness will always be protected and when something this serious happens the response must be swift and firm. We also commend the brave learners who came forward because speaking up helps protect others.”
