Ekurhuleni’s deputy metro police chief, Julius Mkhwanazi.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni in Gauteng has called for the suspension of the municipality’s deputy metro police chief, Julius Mkhwanazi.
The call comes as the City of Tshwane council sits this afternoon to deliberate on a number of issues and Mkhwanazi’s possible precautionary suspension over alleged links to controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
There have been allegations that Mkhwanazi registered Matlala’s five private vehicles as official municipal vehicles and fitted them with blue lights in 2003.
He has denied the allegations.
DA Ekurhuleni Caucus leader Brandon Pretorius says: “Our recommendations requested that the acting chief of police be suspended so that the city can conduct an investigation and based on those investigation findings, submit a report to council at the end of next month.”
