The DA Flag.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it wants the President, the Office of the Public Protector as well as Parliament to probe allegations of maladministration and abuse of power at Parliament.
The party says it has submitted a 393-page document for the three institutions, to investigate the rapid escalation of the salary of the Secretary to Parliament Xolile George, questions around his appointment, and allegations of maladministration of millions of taxpayers’ money for the 2023 BRICS Parliamentary Forum.
The party says investigation by the three institutions is crucial in ridding Parliament of corruption.
DA MP Rikus Badenhorst says former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and former NCOP chairperson Amos Masondo must be investigated on whether they manipulated George’s appointment.
“The appointment and rapid salary escalation of the Secretary to Parliament as well as overspending of more than R6 million on the 2023 BRICS Parliamentary Forum at a time when millions of South Africans are battling poverty, it is unacceptable for tax money to be squandered for luxury. The DA will stop at nothing to expose corruption and ensure accountability even at the highest levels of Parliament.”
