DA blames City of Joburg for ‘total collapse’ amid service failures

1 minute

The Democratic Alliance in Johannesburg claims the City of Johannesburg is in a state of total collapse.

The party has cited, among others, the crumbling infrastructure, potholes, broken traffic lights, and electricity and water supply problems.

The DA’s Johannesburg Caucus briefed the media in Johannesburg on what it believes is the True State of the City.

This comes as Johannesburg mayor councillor Dada Morero prepares to deliver the State of the City Address in Braamfontein on Wednesday.

DA Johannesburg Caucus leader Belinda Kaizer-Echeozonjoku has accused the current coalition-led administration in Johannesburg of having plunged the metro into a state of decay.

She says the city has failed to keep the streets free of rubbish, curb illegal water and electricity connections, and to prioritise the delivery of basic services.

Kaizer-Echezonjoku says the city has failed to deal effectively with the problem of hijacked buildings.

She says there’s been minimal intervention to root out corruption, which she says undermines service delivery to communities.
