Postbank employees assist social grant beneficiaries.
Today is the deadline for all beneficiaries of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to switch from the agency’s gold card to the Postbank’s black card.
The migration process has left some grant recipients frustrated. Long queues and under-staffing have plagued assistance centres across the country, even after the initial February deadline was extended.
SASSA says beneficiaries can make the card swap at selected Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar stores.

Meanwhile, SASSA authorities say they’ll cast their net wider to probe the number of grant beneficiaries who’ve been defrauded across the country.
Ten SASSA officials have been arrested for alleged fraud amounting to over R260 million.
SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says the affected grant beneficiaries will be reimbursed.
“If you are defrauded the organisation would have to make sure that they get what is due to them in case you’re a legitimate applicant or a SASSA beneficiary.”
