Rampant crime and gangsterism are high on the agenda at this year’s police imbizo that’s being held at Atlantis on the Cape West Coast.
The Deputy Ministers of Police Cassel Mathale and Polly Boshielo are attending the crime prevention gathering.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says the purpose of the community engagements is to find lasting solutions for communities affected by gun and gang violence.
Potelwa says the event in Atlantis will be followed by a similar community engagement initiative in Samora Machel, in Phillipi on the Cape Flats on Wednesday.
“The objective of this engagement is to discuss with the citizens of Atlantis and the surrounding areas sustainable solutions to the scourge of crime you would recall that Atlantis just like other areas within the City of Cape Town has incidents of gang violence and the aim is to ensure that we find sustainable solutions and obviously sustainable solutions cannot be found if the police discuss alone.”
