Court to rule on Suliman Carrim’s bid to halt Madlanga subpoena

The South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg will on Thursday morning rule on businessman Suliman Carrim’s bid to block the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry from issuing a subpoena to compel him to appear before it.

Carrim turned to the court on Tuesday to apply for an urgent interdict.

If Carrim’s bid fails, he will have to appear before the Commission in Pretoria on Friday.

Carrim is accused of having dealings with alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

Meanwhile, the commission will resume its hearings on Thursday morning.

It adjourned its proceedings on Wednesday after Witness F said he was not feeling well.

Witness F’s testimony contained shocking revelations relating to how criminal syndicates had infiltrated law enforcement agencies.

The Madlanga Commission heard how Witness F sent Matlala a picture of a motorbike.

In the message, Witness F states that the motorbike would be for his convoy, adding that lights and sirens could be fitted.

But he told the Commission that he did not mean police blue lights.

Witness F denied knowing about the Ekurhuleni blue light saga, which implicated Matlala.

This is despite him forwarding a newspaper article on the blue lights saga to prominent Pretoria-based taxi boss Jothan ‘Mswazi’ Msibi.

A new witness is expected to take the stand on Thursday morning.
