Court to rule on Bester, Magudumana bid to halt Netflix documentary

The High Court in Pretoria is expected to deliver its judgment this Friday morning in an urgent application by convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana to halt a Netflix documentary series ‘Beauty and the Bester’.

The court also heard that Magudumana entered into an agreement with the production company, StoryScope and was paid for archive photos of her life for the documentary.

The first part of the documentary is expected to be broadcast on Friday.

Thabo Bester’s legal representative, Advocate MoAfrika Wa Maila, argued that his client would suffer prejudice if the documentary is flighted as it will infringe on his right to a fair trial, and his character is defamed as the documentary portrays him as a monster.

However, Advocate Thembeka Ngcukaitobi for Netflix dismissed this, arguing that Bester is already a convicted murderer and rapist.
