Outside the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
The Pretoria High Court has struck off an urgent court roll case brought by the dissolved South African Tourism board against Minister Patricia de Lille.
The ousted board had approached the court on an urgent basis, seeking to be reinstated following De Lille’s decision to dissolve it in August.
A key reason given for the move was an unauthorised meeting without a duly appointed chair purportedly held earlier that month, which the board denies.
Former board members claim this is a fabrication used to justify its dissolution and to protect SAT CEO, Nombulelo Guliwe, from accountability.
De Lille has welcomed the court’s decision. “In the meantime, already on the 10th of October, I have gazetted a call for an advertisement with a call for South Africans to nominate eligible, suitable candidates. I will then take it to the process of interviews and shortlisting, where, after, I will then take my recommendations to Cabinet for consideration.”
