Court dismisses Mashatile’s former bodyguards’ application to drop case

The Randburg Magistrates Court has dismissed an application by Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s former bodyguards to have the case against them dropped.

Eight VIP protectors are out on R 10 000 bail.

In 2023, a video emerged showing the accused assaulting occupants of a VW Polo on the N1 Highway.

In his judgment, Magistrate Abdul Khan ruled that the VIP protection officers have a case to answer to, particularly in relation to the charges of assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH) and malicious damage to property.

He further went on to state that accused numbers five to eight will also still have to face a charge of pointing a firearm, whilst accused two and seven will also face a charge of reckless and negligent driving.

A charge of defeating the ends of justice has been dropped for all eight accused.

The case has been postponed to March 23, next year.
