The trial of a couple charged with the possession and distribution of child pornography is expected to begin at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg today.
Thirty-five-year-old Darry Wilken and 25-year-old Tiona Moodley were denied bail last month.
Wilken and Moodley face multiple charges including 24 counts of money laundering, possession and distribution of child pornography and contravention of the Drug Trafficking Act.
Wilken was arrested in January.
His co-accused and girlfriend, Tiona Moodley, was arrested a week later.
This after an FBI-led investigation uncovered an estimated 10 million videos and images of child sexual exploitation material. The presiding officer denied their bail application last month.
The state told the court they have overwhelming evidence against the pair, while their legal counsel argued that the state is dragging the case as they were ready to proceed with the trial earlier than the date set for Monday.
