The Department of Correctional Services launch of Operation Vala.
The Department of Correctional Services has launched its Operation Vala at Grootvlei Correctional Services in Bloemfontein in the Free State.
This annual festive season operation intends to ensure that the country’s correctional facilities remain safe during the upcoming holidays.
The operation is aimed at preventing escapes and violence inside various correctional facilities across the country and putting in place activities to keep inmates busy during the festive period.
“There’s a lot of movement during the festive season which is therefore important that we make it a point that our centres remain orderly, that we also scale down on activities that may expose or tempt inmates wanting to escape or even assaults or any other cases. Today we’re making a statement to say we are ready for the festive season but this launch has also other law enforcement departments because we’re not working alone. So, when you look at other entities, they’ve also launched their festive season operations, we’re doing that today, because we all work in unison,” says Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.
