Family and friends gathered at the St Rose Catholic Church in Bochabela, Bloemfontein, to pay their final respects to Constable Cebekhulu Linda.

Linda was one of three SAPS constables whose bodies were recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion, Pretoria, last week. He had been missing for several days before the discovery.

Mourners described him as a responsible and dedicated individual who embraced responsibility from a young age. They said he was committed to his work and maintained strong relationships with those around him.

“A young kasi hero from our street, a bright light taken far too soon. Cebekhulu was more than just a neighbour, he was a shining example of progress. Cebekhulu was always respectful to his elders and always smiling,” said one mourner.

Another mourner added, “Chomam, Bhutiza. My heart. The first day you went missing was the hardest, because I had to face the possibility of living in a world where you don’t exist.”

Linda’s funeral is the second of the three services for the fallen officers. His colleague Boipelo Senoge was laid to rest on Thursday, while Keamogetswe Buys will be buried on Saturday.
