Constable Buys’ scarce skill will be missed within SAPS: Masemola

2 minutes

National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola says Constable, Keamogetswe Buys was deployed in a very scarce skill environment within the South African Police Service (SAPS) and her knowledge will be missed.

He was speaking at her funeral service at the Grassland Community Hall in Bloemfontein.

Buys was among three police constables whose bodies were retrieved from the Hennops river in Centurion, Pretoria.

Masemola says he initially did not know what to tell the families because no one knew where they were.

He explained to mourners the process police followed to ultimately find the three Constables.

Masemola says Buys was the last person to be recovered from the Hennops River.

He says, “To the Buys family walk proud, she’s honoured by the national flag, she did not die at a tavern fighting for a boy.”

Patriot

The Deputy Police Minister, Cassel Mathale has hailed Buys as a patriot committed to serving the public.

Mathale says her discipline and work ethic earned her a part in the Crime Intelligence Unit just under two years in the police service.

Mathale says constable Buys showed qualities of one of the best SAPS members.

He says, “The journey she had embarked on was indeed not a leisure journey but a journey of duty, of national service, of honour, even though constable buys was only two year in the service, she had already made her mark within the Intelligence Unit of SAPS, the unit she was serving under, a space that demands discretion, discipline and unwavering commitment. “

Soulmate

Buys’ widower, Lwazi Diba has described her as his soulmate.

Diba says he met her during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and affectionately called her ‘my skaat’.

He shared special memories of his wife during her funeral service.
