Constitutional Court of South Africa.
The Constitutional Court will today hear an urgent application lodged by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party to have President Cyril Ramaphosa reverse his decisions to place Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on a leave of absence, appoint Firoz Cachalia to act on his behalf, and establish a Judicial Commission of Inquiry.
The developments follow allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, earlier this month.
He alleged that there was collusion between organised crime syndicates and public office bearers, including Mchunu.
Former President Jacob Zuma and the MK Party have named Ramaphosa, former Acting President Gwede Mantashe, Mchunu, Cachalia and Judicial Commission Chairperson Mbuyeseli Madlanga as respondents in the case.
The official opposition wants the Apex court to declare Ramaphosa’s decisions unconstitutional and irrational.
