Moira Harding during the race
The Comrades Marathon Association says it is pleased that the female athlete reported missing after completing the race yesterday in Durban has been found alive.
Moira Harding, who was amongst the over 22 000 runners for this year’s 98th Comrades edition, is alleged to have gone missing after the race.
Search and Rescue say they found Harding lying on the side of a jetty near the National Sea Rescue Institute base on Durban’s Point Road this morning.
Comrade Marathon Association’s board member Rory Steyn says “We were advised by police that the lady has been found alive and hit in a very bad way. According to medical perspective, she was hypothermic, little disorientated and confused and we are just overjoyed as it would be difficult to celebrate all the performances when one of our Comrade family is missing. So, we are delighted, and we thank God that she was found alive and well and we are waiting feedback from medical professionals and let them speak exactly what happened and police will further investigate on how she ended up so far away from the finish.”
Meanwhile, Harding is currently being treated for hypothermia amongst other conditions in a hospital in Durban.
