Community leader in Giyani calls for intervention after floods

A community leader at Giyani in Limpopo has called on the provincial authorities to intervene in areas which have been affected by flooding.

Vusi Chauke says Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), the Health and Social Development Departments should assist people in need.

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in towns and rivers across the province.

The Education Department yesterday announced that schools which have been affected by floods will open on Monday next week instead of today.

Chauke says road infrastructures has also been affected.

“It’s very, very difficult for the local people to be living as it is because people can’t go to work. It’s becoming a big problem. And if you can see the rain that we’ve been having this rain for almost two, three days now, and then the damage that it has done,” says Chauke.

Chauke adds, “So actually, we need all parties to go all hands on deck to assist those who are struggling, to assist those who are in the floods, to make sure that everyone is safe, the roads are movable and those who need immediate shelter to be taken care of.”
