Committee to meet provincial leadership on AG’s municipal audit

Parliament’s Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Portfolio Committee says it will soon engage provincial leadership on seeking ways of improving financial outcomes for local governments.

This comes after Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke briefed the committee on the 2023-2024 Consolidated General Outcomes yesterday.

Maluleke again painted a grim picture, with only 41 out of 257 municipalities receiving clean audits.

The Committee’s Chairperson, Dr. Zweli Mkhize says, “Not only just, you know, as we normally do, discuss this with the minister, but we need to actually hold different layers of leadership accountable – so the speaker of a province, premier of the province, embassies – to actually sit together to say, in the way the situation has been deteriorating, what has been your involvement? Now, that I think, is important.”
