Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria has heard how well-known private investigator Calvin Rafadi allegedly embarked on a propaganda campaign for businessman Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala.
The businessman allegedly paid for Rafadi’s registration for his PhD studies.
Rafadi allegedly consistently asked Matlala for money.
During an interview with a radio station earlier this year, Rafadi praised Police Minister Senzo Mchunu for disbanding the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Advocate Adila Hassim read the testimony of a person whose identity the commission has concealed and only referred to as witness X.
“And the account holder is reflected as the director of Bizz Tracers followed by phone calls between the two. On 17 March 2025, still that same day, Mr Rafadi requests petrol and that is seen in the chat where he says kopa petrol [can I have petrol money] with a petrol pump. On 23 March 2025, Mr Rafadi requests money.”
