Suspended SAPS Head of Organised Crime Richard Shibiri.
The Madlanga Commission has heard how suspended Organised Crime Head, Major-General Richard Shibiri, was in consistent communication with attempted murder accused, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, a week before his arrest.
This is despite Shibiri previously testifying that his communication with Matlala was minimal.
General Shibiri is currently facing cross-examination at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College.
Commissioner Sesi Baloyi SC questioned General Shibiri about why he would not recall communication with someone who featured prominently in his life.
Commissioner Baloyi: “But to put it as I don’t recall that I was in frequent contact with him, I don’t recall receiving or sending WhatsApp messages after the phone was repaired. I don’t understand it for someone who is clearly prominent generally, but also in your life, clearly. How do you explain that?”
General Shibiri: “Yeah. As I testified previously, that around January, around January, I got some information that my name was used by him somewhere.”
