The Polokwane Municipality in Limpopo says the wall collapse that claimed the life of a shop worker at Mankweng is non-compliant with regulatory standards.
Paulina Letsoalo died after the incident yesterday.
Executive Mayor John Mpe visited the scene and also sent his condolences to the grieving family.
Mpe says they are working with the police to take action against the building’s owners.
“We were never issued an occupational certificate. This building is non-compliant. We are disappointed by the owner of the building. The safety of our people is much more important than profit. It is unfortunate that we are here when a life has been lost. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased. This is a painful reminder of why we continue to place strong emphasis on building safety and compliance across our municipality,” says Mpe.
