CoGTA Minister Hlabisa to assess flood damage in Mpumalanga

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Velenkosini Hlabisa, together with the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mandla Ndlovu, and the Head of the National Disaster Management Centre, Dr Elias Sithole, will on Saturday conduct an oversight visit to areas affected by recent flooding in Mpumalanga Province.

Persistent heavy rains have caused flooding across parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, damaging critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and community facilities.

Several households have been displaced, livelihoods disrupted, and access to basic services affected, while safety risks remain high in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

“The visit will allow us to assess the extent of the damage, engage with affected communities, and evaluate the effectiveness of the relief measures currently being implemented,” the department said in a statement.

During the visit, the delegation will receive briefings from provincial and municipal disaster management teams and interact directly with community leaders and residents to identify immediate needs and additional interventions required to support affected communities.
