Flood damage in Umlazi
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi will lead relief efforts in Umlazi P Section in eThekwini after recent floods caused mudslides, destroying homes and injuring residents.
Supported by social relief partners and senior officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Centre, he will also brief the media on the extent of damage caused by the severe weather.
On Friday, authorities in the province warned residents and motorists to drive with extreme caution as some parts of the province continued to experience persistent rainfall.
A number of roads in the greater eThekwini Metro were flooded as a result of heavy downpours which started Friday morning.
The torrential rains also led to some localised flooding and left business premises in surrounding areas of Durban under water.
Besides a few vehicles stuck in flooded roads, there were no serious incidents reported.
Disaster management teams were dispatched to monitor flood-prone areas.
