Accused number three in the Joshlin Smith kidnapping case, Kelly Smith appears at the Western Cape High Court sitting in Saldanha Bay on April 23, 2025.
The lawyer representing accused number one in the Joshlin Smith kidnapping and human trafficking case, Jacquen Appollis has argued that the state is basing its case on the evidence of Lourentia Lombaard.
Closing arguments commenced today in the high court sitting in Saldanha on the West Coast.
Fannie Harmse told the court that there were discrepancies and contradictions in the statement given by Lombard.
Lombard is the former accused who turned state witness.
She testified that Kelly Smith told her that she sold Joshlin to a sangoma for R20,000.
Harmse has also questioned what she says are the two contradictory versions put forward by the state in relation to the statements of Lombard and Kelly Smith.
Arguments will resume on Wednesday.
