Johannesburg’s City Power is calling on all customers who are running full-time businesses from properties registered as residential to change to a business classification.
This has a significate impact on the tariffs they are charged.
Residential tariffs are designed and priced based on normal household consumption patterns, while business tariffs have higher consistent electricity usage and operate for extended hours.
City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, says this initiative ensures fairness and sustainability in how electricity services are provided and paid for.
“We will be conducting house-to-house audits to verify electricity usage by most of our customers. Those who are found operating businesses on residential tariffs will be assisted to migrate to the correct tariff.”
