City Power extends deadline for non-vending prepaid conversion

City Power has extended the deadline for converting non-vending prepaid residential customers to post-paid billing, giving affected households more time to comply.

The process, which was due to end in December 2025, will now run until the 30th of June 2026.

City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the extension aims to help customers regularise their electricity supply, resolve billing issues and cooperate with ongoing meter audits.

Mangena has warned that failure to comply could result in disconnections, penalties or backdated charges.

“We will continue conducting standby metre audits across Johannesburg to identify any non-vending prepaid customers, bridged metres and also other forms of non-compliance on our network. Customers are encouraged to cooperate with authorised technicians to avoid any disconnections or penalties or even additional charges. City Power urges all affected customers to use the extended window period to regularise their accounts and also ensure compliance before the 30th of June 2026 deadline.”

Meanwhile in October last year, the City of Johannesburg went on a campaign to cracking down on non-paying electricity customers.
