City Power CEO cleared of nepotism and procurement allegations

The board of Johannesburg City Power has cleared its CEO  Tshifularo Mashava of allegations of nepotism, unqualified appointments and irregular procurement processes.

The entity says investigations conducted by an independent law firm found no facts to substantiate the allegations that the CEO inflated payments to contractors.

City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the probe revealed that Mashava did not influence hiring processes of alleged family members.

“After an extensive review of the documentation interviews with officials, the report found these allegations to be without basis. The investigations confirmed that Ms. Mashaba did not participate in, or even influence, any recruitment processes involving individuals alleged to be her relatives,” says Mangena.

He says the investigations further verified that those individuals met all competency and qualification requirements for their roles and that the CEO recused herself where appropriate.

“The report concluded that there was no evidence of favoritism or policy breaches in the appointments,” adds Mangena.
