Scene of the CIT heist
A cash-in-transit (CIT) van has been blown up by robbers near the Midway Mall in Durban’s Newlands West.
ALS Paramedics who have responded to the scene, asked motorists to avoid the area.
It is not known at this stage if anyone was injured in the robbery.
Following the release of the crime stats last week, the Cash-In-Transit (CIT) Association said while statistics for 2025/2026 indicate that CIT robberies have dropped by 51% in the country, there is concern that KwaZulu-Natal remains an epicentre of these brazen and violent heists.
The intensity of these attacks is rising, particularly along the N2 and M4 corridors.
A concerning trend for the province is the high risk of danger to civilians.
