Christmas cheer lightens up elderly in Westbury old age home

The CEO of Jordan House Old Age Home in Westbury, Johannesburg, Phyllis Vilakazi, says it’s important to ensure all elderly and destitute people feel valued and loved during Christmas.

Staff members of the home are holding a celebration for its elderly citizens today.

Vilakazi says Christmas can be a lonely time for many elderly people, especially those without family nearby.

“So, we have a few residents that do not have families that can be able to pick them up and spoil them. And the challenge is that some of them do get families that come and fetch them. But the ones that stay behind are the ones that go through a lot…So, Christmas is love, it’s sharing, it’s kindness, it’s humbleness. It’s celebrating this day and making sure that everybody is in good spirits and is joyous and making sure that everybody deserves this chance. So be kind, really be kind and be humble as well.”
