Chinese fugitive arrested in Sandton at INTERPOL’s request

A 57-year-old Chinese national has been arrested in South Africa by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) extradition team in Pretoria.

The suspect is reportedly linked to a fraud case in China.

According to a preliminary report, INTERPOL issued a Red Notice to all member countries to locate and provisionally arrest the fugitive, as wanted individuals often flee to other countries to avoid prosecution.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday after applying for a visa at the United States Embassy in Sandton, where his fugitive status was flagged.

He made his first appearance in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
