Caregivers to ensure children’s safety over festive season
The children’s rights advocacy organisation, Childline has urged parents and caregivers to prioritise their children’s safety over the festive season.
This comes as the search for the Siganga children who went missing at Madamini Village outside KwaBhaca in the Eastern Cape continues.
The four children aged between four and seven were last seen playing outside their homestead and have been missing for over a month.
Childline CEO Dumisile Cele says although parents might be too busy during the festive season, the safety of children should be a top priority.
“We have noted that the issues of missing children, being abducted from their family homes, from school, it has certainly increased. And at this period children are at home, they want to go out and play, but what is also of concern is in most cases parents are also very busy during this period. So issues of childcare and protection, they really should be a priority for us as grown-ups, so that we make sure we know where children are at all times and also that they are being looked after.”
