Children’s Golf Masters Tournament to uncover hidden talent in Durban

Children from disadvantaged communities will participate in the Children’s Golf Masters Tournament to be held in Greyville, Durban, this Sunday.

The children come from townships, rural areas and informal settlements around KwaZulu-Natal.

The event aims to uplift disadvantaged children and teach them the game of golf.

Tournament Publicity Secretary Gary Govindsamy says they’re out to uncover hidden talent in youngsters.

‘They will play in eight categories. Many of the children will play according to their handicaps, but we’ve gone a step further to give children who know the game but don’t have official handicaps to play competitive golf.”

“They’ll play nine holes and the rest play 18 holes. Some of our previous competitors have gone off to play international games and have returned to defend their titles. The prizes include floating trophies, outright trophies and golf equipment. No child will leave the course empty-handed,” adds Govindsamy.
