Hard drives seized from Darren Wilken, an accused in the child pornography case, has 39 tera-bytes of data that still needs to be analyzed. This came out in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg, earlier today.

The court also heard that the accused allegedly transacted with crypto currency, which the state said makes the case more complicated.

Wilken and his girlfriend, Tiona Moodley face 24 counts of money laundering, possession and distribution of child pornography and contravention of the Drug Trafficking Act, among other charges.

The case has been postponed to the 20th of June for further investigation.

State Prosecutor, Elize le Roux says the investigation is going to take some time.

“Your Worship, the process that we followed since the arrest was downloading of the material. That in itself took 40 days with the download running 24 hours a day. As images are estimated in millions. The investigation cannot be conducted by one man alone, so our police are also assisted by overseas law enforcement. So, the investigation is underway, and it is far from being finalized,” says le Roux.
