Chiefs and Pirates confident ahead of derby

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has confidence that the players promoted to their first team from the development ranks will be able to handle the pressure of playing in the Soweto Derby on Saturday.

The Buccaneers will be eager to win a sixth Soweto Derby in a row when they host their arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a Betway premiership match at the FNB Stadium.

Despite Kaizer Chiefs being in a rebuilding phase, Tunisian coach, Nasreddine Nabi, believes his team will have a chance against the inform Pirates. Nabi will be on the bench for his first Soweto Derby.

Orlando Pirates has blooded more youngsters into their senior squad following the sensational, Relebohile Mofokeng, who has also featured for Bafana Bafana.

Among the youngsters is Mohau Nkota who scored a brace in their away CAF Champions League match against Algerian side, CR Belouizdad.

The 22-year-old, Siyabonga Ndlozi was the most recent player Pirates introduced to their senior team during their away match against Egypt’s Al Ahly.

Pirates coach, Riveiro says the three have shown in the Champions League that they are ready, and he expects them to also do well in a match of the Soweto Derby’s magnitude.

“So, far they have played an important role in the team in our team in our freshness I really believe when you get players from your development, they can give you something that no other players can give and they have shown in our matches on the continent and I hope they can show on Saturday,”

Chiefs have been blowing hot and cold with Pirates considered favorites for Saturday’s match. However, coach Nabi believes they have a chance to win the match.

“It is true Pirates have been building for some time, and they will be favorites on paper, but it will be 50/50 and we will have chances to win the match whoever takes their chances will win on the day and we hope it will be us,” says Nasreddine Nabi, Chiefs coach.

While Pirates have a clean bill of health with their regulars available for selection for Saturday’s game, the Chiefs coach has revealed that the Amakhosi will be without the injured Wandile Duba. Duba has arguably been Chiefs’ best player of the season so far and will reportedly be out for a month and a half.
