Chief Justice Maya issues directions in case of MKP versus Ramaphosa

Chief Justice Mandisa Maya has issued directions in former President Jacob Zuma and the uMkhonto weSizwe(MKP) party’s legal challenge against President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to place Police Minister on special leave.

The said directions set a number of deadlines for interested parties, namely those who wish to oppose the application must file their answering affidavits on or before Tuesday, 22 July 2025.

In addition, any interested parties that wish to intervene in support of the main application must file their intervention applications by Monday 21 July 2025.

This is after Zuma and the MKP party filed papers in the apex court to challenge the said decision, as well as the decision to appoint Professor Firoz Cachalia as Acting Police Minister and the establishment of a judicial commission of inquiry.
