Vusi “Cat” Matlala and three others appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court north of Johannesburg, July 11, 2025.
The case against Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, his wife and two others is expected to resume at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, north of Johannesburg, on Tuesday morning.
In July, Matlala, along with his wife and two co-accused, appeared in court on charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, fraud and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
This after Matlala allegedly ordered a hit on his former partner, Tebogo Thobejane in October 2023.
During their previous court appearance, his legal team argued that the state had not furnished them with all the necessary documents, including cellphone records.
Matlala might face more charges after the state indicated that it would be centralizing two other cases in which the accused are implicated.
Earlier last month, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi alleged Matlala had links to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
The allegations of his alleged influence and links in the disbandment of the political killing task team, has grabbed the attention of government, the media, citizens, politicians and those in the security industry.
