FILE | Businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala appears in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg.
The case against controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his four co-accused has been transferred from the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court to the High Court in Johannesburg for trial.
Matlala and his co-accused will now face 11 attempted murder charges as well as conspiracy to commit murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition amongst others.
This is in relation to the alleged botched hit on his former girlfriend Tebogo Thobejane in October 2023.
Matlala also faces two other attempted murder charges of Seunkie “DJ Vetteys” Mokubung and businessman Joe Sibanyoni.
Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwana says, “We did receive the approval for the centralisation for the Pretoria dockets which was that off Sibanyoni and others, conspiracy to commit murder as well as charges of attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, so in that case as well as the Pretoria docket of DJ Vetteys, Mr Mokubung, so all of these matters will form one trial before the High Court in Johannesburg and the first appearance there is the 29th of January 2026.”
