Carrim to face tough questions over Matlala, Maumela payments

North-West businessman Suliman Carrim will face cross-examination when he returns to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria this morning.

Carrim’s accusation of having links to alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala and businessman Morgan Maumela was at the centre of his testimony yesterday.

Carrim says Matlala had asked him to pay Maumela R750.000.

According to Carrim, the money was part of the R1.2-million that Matlala had just paid him after owing him for six months.

“I said, look, I can’t do R750.000. And I then agreed to do R500.000 because we knew that more invoices were coming, or he knew, I should say, let me rephrase that. Mr Matlala said to me that there are more invoices that are still owed to him, and then he will top me up on the next payment. But in total, he wanted me to give Mr Maumele 750,000,” explains Carrim.
