Carling Black Label and the Premier Soccer League have launched a #NOEXCUSE partnership, which aims to harness the power of football to drive meaningful change in the fight against Gender-based Violence. This took place at the SABC headquarters’s M1 Studio, in Auckland Park, on Wednesday afternoon.
The launch featured big names in the sporting industry including Benny McCarthy, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Linda Mtambo, and Tshegofatso Mabasa.
Former football referee Ace Ncobo has described this initiative as a paradigm shift from placing the responsibility on the girl child to defend herself.
“It moves away from teaching a girl child how to use a paper spray; (and) how to fire a gun. It says, ‘How can we transform the thinking approach so that men can take the lead?’ It is now time for men to be at the forefront of the fight against GBV. We, as the PSL, want to our players to be able to stand and use their influence and presence in the fight against Gender-based Violence,” says Ncobo.

Sabelo Gumede : “The #NOEXCUSE program was specifically directed to Male soccer players, because they are mostly neglected and they go through traumas and mental pressures from career injuries and from communities they come from.” pic.twitter.com/h4jPOs8eaN
