Firefighters in the region had to battle stubborn fires at various sites last week.
Municipal spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto says the wind eased overnight in Ida’s Valley in Stellenbosch, allowing teams to make progress.
“With the wind easing overnight, teams made excellent progress and the fire line is fully contained. A few warm areas still require mopping up and a ground crew will remain on site throughout the day. In De Doorns, we’re very relieved to say that this fire’s been fully contained. However, there are still a few smouldering hotspots which remain and will be closely monitored throughout the day,” says Otto.
The Cape Winelands District Municipality says firefighters are still busy dousing the flames of a fire on the Witzenberg side of the Matroosberg Mountains. Several fires were burning in the district on Tuesday.
