Cape Winelands firefighters dousing Witzenberg blaze

The Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) says firefighters are still busy dousing the flames of a fire on the Witzenberg side of the Matroosberg Mountains.

Several fires were burning in the district on Tuesday.

Fire Services Spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto says efforts were hampered by hot weather and difficult terrain.

Otto adds, “The fire is burning briskly in the veld and non-arable areas in the Bo-Swaarmoed Pass, however there is currently no danger to property. Firefighters and vehicles from both CWDM and CapeNature are being aided by farmers and agri-workers in the area. Teams will continue to work the lines throughout the night.”
