Beachgoers and holidaymakers who flocked to the Muizenberg Beach in Cape Town as part of new year celebrations have expressed support for the high visibility of law enforcement agencies who ensure compliance and safety at the beaches.

Thousands of beachgoers and holidaymakers made their way to the city’s beaches across Cape Town as they celebrated New Year’s Day.

Families, friends and loved ones from across South Africa as well as tourists spent the day at the beaches and in municipal pools. Various operations including roadblocks and beach patrols were conducted.

These beachgoers say they are excited to spend the first day of the new year in a safe environment.

“Guys, we are enjoying life here in Muizenberg. It’s the first day of the year. I think everything will be postive. I really appreciate when there’s metro police and police here around the beach just because they make sure that we are safe and nobody can come to the beach with alcohol. We feel very much safe for law enforcement for being here in the beaches because they are here to ensure our safety
This is what we were looking forward with my family because safety comes first.”
