The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) says counselling is being provided to learners and schools affected by the incident in which a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed in Ravensmead on the Cape Flats earlier today.

Two other teenagers aged 15 and 17, as well as a 55-year-old man were also wounded in the shooting.

The children were on their way to school when the incident occurred.

WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says support structures are being put in place for affected learners.

“Our district counselling team is at the schools to provide support. The WCED National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination team was also alerted immediately and measures were put in place to ensure that the grade 12 learners could write the NSC exam and that the integrity of the examination was not compromised. Support is being provided to these learners as well.”
