The Lombardy West community, north of Johannesburg, has called for increased police visibility and vigilance.

The community held a candlelight ceremony at the spot where the body of Olorato Mongale was discovered.

The 30-year-old’s body was found hours after she left her residential complex with a man known only as John in a VW Polo on Sunday.

Police are still searching for the man.

These young female residents say they no longer feel safe.

“Everything is very scary, honestly speaking, and with the safety so that we may feel more secure because we are afraid to even go out on dates with guys that we don’t even know.”

“We are afraid to greet anybody because of everything that is happening. And we feel like the police service is not doing much, so would like them to at least help us. please be vigilant out there.”
