Buti Manamela sworn in as Minister of Higher Education and Training,
Buti Manamela has been sworn in as Minister of Higher Education and Training and welcomed to Cabinet by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday.
Manamela replaces Nobuhle Nkabane, who was removed from the position by President Ramaphosa on Tuesday night.
The Presidency did not give a reason for Nkabane’s removal. However, calls for her resignation had grown louder in recent weeks due to her handling of the SETA board chairpersons’ saga.
Ramaphosa has thanked Manamela for serving as Deputy Minister and welcomed him to the new position.
“In terms of the powers vested in me by section 91.2 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996, I have decided to appoint the following person as the Minister of the Portfolio indicated, in the signed present Act, Mr Buti Manamela, the Minister of Higher Education.”
Dr. Nomusa Dube-Ncube, former KwaZulu-Natal Premier, has been appointed Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training.
She has extensive public service experience, including roles as Speaker of the eThekwini Municipality and Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
She became the first female Premier of KwaZulu-Natal between 2022 and 2024.
In a statement, the ANC in KZN said Dube-Ncube has an impressive track record in leadership.
In May, she graduated with a Doctorate of Administration from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
