Bushbuckridge residents march for title deeds

Residents from 30 villages east of Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga are urging the government to help them secure title deeds for their homes.

They have expressed frustration after multiple requests for these documents from their traditional authorities have been unsuccessful.

Today, they marched to the Bushbuckridge Municipality regional offices in Hluvukani to submit a memorandum requesting intervention from the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

Some of the residents who participated in the march, shared their sentiments on the matter.

“We are having a problem with our title deeds when it comes to our residents. Sometimes when we apply for home loans, we don’t get help from financial institutions because we don’t have title deeds of our own residences that we are residing on,” says one of the home owners.

Another resident says, “The very difficult issue is with the traditional authority because it doesn’t want to give any person the papers of permission to occupy (PTO). We don’t know, maybe if we take this issue to government, maybe they will ask the traditional authority to help us.”
